Feed the Reader event brings fitness, nutrition and literacy into focus

Mesa United Way partnered with United Food Bank, Boys & Girls Club, Mesa Community College, teachers from Mesa Public Schools, and ASU to offer a free event for families focusing on fitness, nutrition, and literacy. Adults took advantage of the classes offered in English and Spanish while kids were split up into groups according to age and learned in fun, interactive ways. Families walked away with bags of fresh food and meat, vouchers for fresh food boxes from United Food Bank, and a handful of information on easy, affordable ways to incorporate fitness, nutrition, and literacy into your family’s lives every day. What was most exciting about this event was the partnerships created and the new relationships formed with parents. Patty from 12 Books commented that she was able to connect with parents who were unaware of the  myriad of free resources offered at the library. She plans to meet with them and show them what is available for their families. Mesa United Way hopes to offer this event a few times a year in different parts of Mesa.

Awards Luncheon is Tuesday, May 16
