2008 National Events
In addition to local Tocqueville Society events, United Way of America offers Tocqueville Society members opportunities to attend national learning, networking, and recognition events. The national schedule varies from year to year. In 2008 United Way of America is offering the following national events:
Executive Chairs Forum
Held February 12-20, 2008, New Orleans, Louisiana
The Executive Chairs Forum is an invitation-only networking and learning event open to current and incoming local Tocqueville Society chairs and accompanying local United Way staff from the system’s largest United Ways, as determined by annual resource development results. The forum features keynote speakers on philanthropy, host city events, and sessions targeted at growing and maintaining a successful local Tocqueville Society and overall Major Giving program.
United Way Million Dollar Roundtable Regional Event
Held April 4-6, 2008, Amelia Island, Florida
This invitation-only event is open to all Million Dollar Roundtable and National Society members. The weekend featured a reception at the home of Barry and Michele Griswell, discussion around the inspiration behind personal philanthropic action, a private dinner with Brian Gallagher, president and CEO of United Way of America, and gave guests the opportunity to network with like-minded philanthropists from around the country while enjoying the setting and amenities of the beautiful Amelia Island Plantation.
Tocqueville Networking Session
Held May 13, 2008, Baltimore, Maryland
This networking and learning session is held in conjunction with the 2008 United Way Community Leaders Conference and is open to all current and incoming local Tocqueville Society chairs, National Corporate Leadership (NCL) partner corporation chairs, and global Major Gifts volunteers. The afternoon features ideas exchange on donor acquisition, donor retention, and transformational gifts.
Fleur-de-Lis Awards Celebration
Held May 13, 2008, Baltimore, Maryland
The 2008 Fleur-de-Lis Awards Celebration honored the outstanding achievements of local Tocqueville Societies and National Corporate Leadership partner corporations from across the nation. The seated dinner and presentation was open to all current and incoming local Tocqueville Society Chairs, National Corporate Leadership partner corporation chairs, global Major Gifts volunteers, and accompanying local United Way staff.
2008 United Way Community Leaders Conference
Held May 14-16, 2008, Baltimore, Maryland
United Way: Around the World
November 19-21, 2008, New York, New York
This world class, invitation only-event will connect Million Dollar Roundtable and National Society members with work of the United Nations impacting women and children, health, and financial stability for people around the world, and will also provide an opportunity to discuss the evolving global vision of United Way. The event will culminate with a black-tie gala celebrating individual philanthropic accomplishments and presentation of the United Way National Tocqueville Award and recognition of new Million Dollar gift commitments made during the previous year.
