Operation Second Wind

If you're 55 or older, Operation Second Wind could be the right AmeriCorps opportunity for you. As part of the AmeriCorps program, Operation Second Wind places citizens of Mesa, most aged 55 or over, as service delivery professionals at nonprofit human and health services agencies around the city. Mesa United Way works with each AmeriCorps applicant to match them with one of the participating agencies. The AmeriCorps member then provides services at one of the agency’s service sites, where they generally partner with a ‘mentor-trainer’ in that office. Our AmeriCorps deliver crucial services in the areas of: economic hardship and homelessness, childhood literacy, veterans’ affairs, adult health and wellness, volunteer coordination, and more.

Commitment and Benefits

All positions are part-time, ranging from seven to 20 hours per week. Each position is awarded a bi-weekly stipend, determined by the level of commitment. Additionally, Operation Second Wind AmeriCorps members receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that can be used for tuition, student loans, or school supplies. If you serving as an AmeriCorps member and you are over 55 years old, this scholarship can be gifted to a direct descendent within seven years of your service.
